For example I could have sworn that core set-era Garruk is no longer cursed

I’m pretty sure he’s still cursed. You keep saying Wizards had made one, but I checked all published sets and none had monocolor-matters themes. Only Shadowmoor came anywhere close, and that is only because some of the hybrid-matters cards also worked in monocolor-matters.

1) Shadowmoor counts. It had a strong monocolor theme.

2) Onslaught had strong monocolor race themes. Mirrodin had affinity for basic lands. Urza’s Saga had a major monoblack deck theme. And those are just off the top of my head. There have been many monocolor themes pushed over the years.

Pssst, Maze's End isn't legendary ;)

Um, I meant Eye of Ugin. That is an absolutely -preposterous- amount of Magic players in one place. 1) Can we just recognize this for a minute? 2) Any comment? (... And more importantly, 3) Good luck to everyone staffing that event, the poor souls. oO )

It is awesome to watch history in the making. I feel like we get the most in black and red?

I believe it’s as follows: (from my gut, no research, also remember that lower costs with CC weigh more for pushing towards monocolor)
Black
Green
White
Blue
Red

Why elvish mystic instead of llanowar elves? I mean come on! Where are goblins, viashinos, flamekins, treefolks, kithkins and vedalken? To be honest I am getting bored to these human faces...

Here’s the thing. Humans really like humans. The nonhuman planeswalkers (the ones that don’t look human) tend to fare worse than the human ones.

That doesn’t mean we won’t keep making nonhuman planeswalkers but it is something we keep in mind.

You printed one of the most "expensive" and "powerful" versions of your splashiest, most iconic card type in Jace the Mind Sculpter... and then you do "market research" and surprise, guess who everyone's favorite planeswalker is... I highly doubt this has all that much do with the actual character of Jace. If that card was called "Sorin the Mind Sculpter", I imagine the markets would be singing a different song.

Here’s the flaw to that line of thinking. Jace was winning all the market research polls before Jace, the Mind Sculptor came out, even in Lorwyn where I think Garruk had the more powerful card.

Jace’s critics just don’t want to believe that the majority of the public actually likes him.

As an avid legacy player I often worry about the format for years to come as reserved list cards continue to be collected, hoarded and even destroyed. A couple seem like they'd make really nice generals.

I think it was a mistake we didn’t make them legendary. I’m not sure restricting lands that are meant to be played 4-of to help mana fixing are a great use of this new resource but I never (well, seldom) say never.

I just read this on Tabak's tumblr and instantly thought of you.
