atorrentialdownpour asked: So, tonight at FNM, I played against a new player in rounds one and two. I was playing UW Delver against their Renegade Demons and Thraben Valiant's. I crushed them completely(both rounds took less than ten minutes each.) I feel bad for doing this, but I want to do well obviously. You are big on getting new players in, so, what is the best way to handle a situation like this?

The best thing you can do when playing a new player is take time to talk to them about the game. If they are receptive, you can explain ways in which they could have improved in the game. Give them concrete examples.

This way they leave the game with something tangible that will make them feel as if they are advancing in the game even thought they didn’t win. Also, and I wish this went without saying, be nice. New players expect to lose a lot but they also expect to have a good time.
